About COCE
COCE, a 5 year project that concluded on March 27, 2009, was funded and administered by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) and Center for Mental Health Services. Co-Occurring disorders are identified by SAMHSA as one of "11 priority program areas to ensure that the Agency's work addresses the elements that people with substance use and mental disorders need to live a full rewarding life in the community" (see SAMHSA's Matrix at: http:www.samhsa.gov/matrix/brochure.aspx).
COCE provided technical assistance, training, products, and resources to support the dissemination and adoption of best practices in systems and programs that serve persons with co-occurring disorders.
COCE's Mission was to:- Receive, generate, and transmit advances in substance abuse and mental health treatment that address mental health and substance use disorders at all levels of severity and that can be adapted to the unique needs of each client;
- Guide enhancements in the infrastructure and clinical capacities of the mental health and substance abuse service systems; and
- Foster the infusion and adoption of evidence- and consensus-based treatment and program innovation into clinical and organizational practice.
